World Without Sound an Anthology

World Without Sound an Anthology – Sawidji Gallery

In March-April 2023 David Hopkins collaborated for the first time with Sawidji Gallery in World Without Sound Group Exhibition. An Anthology of thought, expression and realisations. Davids’s art is influenced very much by his love and involvement with music. In responding to the theme ‘world without sound’ he offered a series of his works titled ‘Musical Legends’

A WORLD WITHOUT SOUND

We somehow understand that World Without Sound for David Hopkins would be like a world devoid of music. One where these legendary talents have never walked and one where these incredible anthems of musical history were never sung.

Inspired and influenced by the Record cover art, underground culture, David Carson, Serge Gainsbourg, The Stranglers music and style, Guy Bourdin’s photography, Street style and pop art, poster art, Monty Python, electronica music and Dr Who.

Inspired by the experiences shared with the students of Sushrusa Deaf School, we invited our friends near and far to join in a reflection. Each in their own way to share a part of what they found within themselves when asked to imagine a ‘World Without Sound’. From their offering of art and writings we bring together this collection. An anthology of thought and art, in every way, doing our best to learn from this spirit of creativity and inclusivity.
