Sofa Safari artworks introduce an absurd yet entertaining scenario that might make viewers laugh but also think deeper about the way humans interact with nature and wildlife. The choice of a luxury setting also adds a layer of irony—suggesting perhaps that the real “wild” is often overrun by human-created “comfort.”
The choice of bright colors, like the blue giraffe and the pink octopus, are part of an intentional effort to evoke certain emotions and make bold visual statements. These vibrant, surreal colors add a layer of energy and surrealism, inviting the viewer to reflect on the surreal nature of human intervention in natural spaces.
Sofa Safari is a whimsical, surreal, and imaginative exhibition featuring artworks where animals are placed in unexpected, often humorous and playful, domestic surreal settings. The idea of an elephant in a bathtub, a blue giraffe on a blue Chesterfield chair, and a wolf on a luxury sofa is a delightful and quirky way to explore the contrast between wild, untamed animals and the comfortable, human-created environments we typically associate with relaxation and luxury.
While the dsofa Safari exhibition leans heavily into the whimsical, there is also an underlying commentary about how humans are encroaching upon animal habitats. The animals in these human-created environments symbolize the tension between the natural world and human development, with the animals uncomfortably or absurdly inserted into spaces they don’t belong.
